Add the option for users to use their own generic image for each systems missing boxart
Feature Request
The ability for the user to change the default small semi-transparent system image (when a boxart cannot be found) to their own artwork...like using that particular Systems' logo or your own mock up generic boxart to cover all missing boxart for that system
Using Android I personally have at least 15k+ games where no boxart can be found at all, mainly 8 bit computers like Zx Spectrum, C64, Amstrad Cpc etc but also for all the consoles and other computers which have thousands homebrew/hacked games without any boxart.
I know this has been asked a few times in the forums about how to change the default missing boxart to something else and the response (and rightly so) is that you have to do each game individually but Dig is already doing this for all missing boxart.
Essentially, let the user change the missing boxart image for each system to their own image, similar to how the user can with the main System icons.
Anyways..awesome frontend! really enjoying it & I highly recommend unlocking all the features and supporting the devs.

https://digdroid.com/forums/discussion/9232/add-the-option-for-users-to-use-their-own-generic-image-for-each-systems-missing-boxartThis was added as a feature a while ago. If you go into the main settings, then theme options and select the games tab you can select a folder for default missing box art.
Here's a pack I already made up if you're interested.

https://digdroid.com/forums/discussion/9232/add-the-option-for-users-to-use-their-own-generic-image-for-each-systems-missing-boxartWow! you sir are a legend, I never knew those options existed! Finally I have some decent artwork for the thousands of games with missing covers. Thank you so much
On a side note to Chalotron have you considered creating any generic boxart images for all system's that are missing them? (i.e no boxart not available warning pic). I've created new boxart for nearly all the systems I have, like using an Atari 2600 boxart template and adding that systems image as replacement for any game image (even adding a Hacks logo specifically for those roms) or using a generic Amiga Floppy Disk image to cover my cloned amiga system for floppys only...just curious if you would be interested in this as a project...
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you asking here. The Google drive link I shared in my first reply has system specific default boxart for pretty much every system DIG supports. For example the missing box art for Atari 2600 is using the 2600's box template. E.G.

If there's a system I've missed in that pack that you want to see supported then I can knock something up. As for doing a floppy disc with a no box art on the label is actually a really good idea for Amiga as the Amiga doesn't have a default box template the same way most consoles do.
If you are talking about creating custom box art for romhacks and homebrew games then I do that too. I have tonnes of custom romhack covers. If there's any specific titles you are looking for then it's likely I've already created them.
Again, I'm not sure if these are exactly what you're after but I think they could be quite cool for any floppy disc/tape based systems.
Many thanks for responding Chalotron, I was hoping if you were interested, maybe come up with a boxart pack which displays a picture of each system instead of the "No Artwork available". I.e. the Atari 2600 template is retained but the "missing artwork picture" is replaced with a pic of that system. This is especially handy for Homebrew and hacked games.
I think I get what you mean now, when next I get some downtime at work I'll see what I can knock up.
Thank you, I'm really interested in what you can come up with
I've managed to do a few, they are not perfect but kinda look better than Dig's default.
I had this working last week up until yesterday. Then I installed the beta and it missed my entire setup up so I had to uninstall it and go back to a stable version of dig.
Now when I set these images as the default cover folder all it does is reset my view settings in the games view and every single game shows these custom "no boxart" images.
Even if I switch over to screenshots it'll just show the no box art image.
If I manually set one of the games to the correct cover it'll instead show the no box art image that came with dig. The orb with the system image in the middle.
If I then set it to show screenshots instead of covers it'll actually show the screenshot while all the other games show the custom no box art image.
If I refresh the images for that system it has no effect.
Just a heads up, if Dig is still checking cover artwork in the background (Wrench) then this can take a while to sort out but will eventually display your cover artwork.
Makes no sense to me why I can't get this to work. I've extracted the contents of the awesome default cart pack in this thread into a folder. I've gone into the games section of my theme and chose to browse and select the folder for my default carts. I go into any system and the default cart doesn't show up, its the generic ghost system circle. Any ideas? I can't for the life of me understand why this setting isn't working. I've restart dig, double checked the files, why wouldn't it be linking it to my systems?
Check to see if Dig is still processing covers/screenshots (touch the wrench in the upper-right corner).
On mine, it was stuck on a few thousand images and would never finish them. Only when I converted all my artwork to be the same size/bit depth, did they all finish processing and then my "missing boxart" from this post displayed correctly.
I believe it's related.
It is not in any way related to the quality or size of the images, in fact nothing to do with images.
There is an easy fix.
Easy ;)
